The Encyclopedia Project currently holds entries submitted by over three hundred authors from some 106 countries. Although many of the articles are written from the perspective of religious studies, Middle Eastern studies, and history, other entries represent disciplines ranging from sociology to economics, ecology, art history, medicine, and architecture. The authors bring to their work a wide range of experience; they include academics, specialists, independent scholars, and others with a compelling firsthand knowledge of the subject matter.

Many of the articles were submitted as drafts years ago and have been updated as needed by the authors and the editors. Others have been written more recently. All articles have benefited from the comments of readers who have been invited to assist at various times during the editorial process.

All entries are signed. A small number of the authors did not live to see their work published; their heirs have kindly given approval for use of the articles.
